【Nest/Pocket】「フルーツアイスのワークショップ」後編！」〈実施報告〉

女の子が準備を進めていた「フルーツアイスのワークショップ」いよいよ「アイスを作る日」を迎えました。申し込みは満員です。

開始前、事前に考えた台本を握りしめながら「もう一度練習しておこう」とぎりぎりまで練習をして準備を整えていました。会がスタートすると、さっきまでの緊張はどこへやら「こっちに集まってください。こんにちは！」と元気にスタートすることができました。

アイス作りでは、ヨーグルトの水を切ってフルーツに混ぜたり、ジュースを使ってアイスを作っていきました。ヨーグルトの水切りでは女の子から「まず、このフィルターの中に・・・」と企画者の女の子からレクチャーを受けます。参加者の子どもたちの顔は真剣そのもの。みんな言われた通りに作業を進めることができました。

今回は低学年の参加が多くエプロンをつけたり、アイス作りの中で包丁を使う場面では手間取っている様子も見られましたが、3・4年生の参加者が「やってあげようか？」と声をかけてくれるなど、参加者も一緒になってみんなが楽しめる場を作ってくれていました。

2日目はいよいよ「アイスを食べる日」です。早めに到着した企画者の女の子は冷凍庫の中のアイスがちゃんと固まっているかすぐに確認に行く様子も。「ちゃんと固まってる！ばっちり！」と準備も万端です。子ども達はみんなルンルンで集合し、紙コップからアイスを出した瞬間「おいしそう！」「おぉ～」と歓声が上がります。そしてみんなで縁側でアイスタイム。「味が足りたい！」という子は自分でジュースを煮詰めてシロップを作ったり、はちみつで味を足したりしながら思い思いアイスを楽しみました。アイスの後はみんなで遊ぶ時間。主催者の女の子が「何したい？」と相談しながらみんなが楽しめる時間を作ることができました。振り返りでは「もう一回参加したい人？」と尋ねるとたくさんの手が挙がりました。

今回の企画でチラシの作成やまだ話したことが無い人への宣伝、買い出しの量を決めるなど様々なことにチャレンジしてくれた女の子。最後に「みんなに喜んでもらえてうれしかった！参加してくれてありがとう」と、様々なチャレンジを乗り越え、素敵な笑顔を見せてくれていました。

[“Making Fruit Ice Cream Together!” — A 4th Grader’s First Challenge (Part 2)]

The big day finally arrived! It was “Making Day” for the fruit ice cream workshop that our young organizer had been preparing so hard for, and every single spot was fully booked.

Before the event started, she clutched her handwritten script tightly, practicing her lines over and over until the very last second. But once the workshop officially kicked off, her nervousness vanished instantly. “Everyone, gather around over here! Hello!” she greeted them with a bright, energetic voice, starting the event beautifully.

The ice cream making process involved straining yogurt, mixing it with fruit, and blending in fruit juice. Standing before her classmates, she confidently gave a mini-lesson: “First, you pour it into this filter…” The participating children watched with intense focus, carefully following her instructions step-by-step.

Since many of the participants were younger elementary students, some struggled with tying their aprons or using knives to prep the fruit. Seeing this, the older 3rd and 4th graders stepped up, warmly asking, “Do you want me to help you?” It was heartwarming to see the kids working together to make sure everyone had a great time.

The next day was the long-awaited “Eating Day.” Arriving early, the young organizer ran straight to the freezer to check on her creations. “They’re frozen perfectly! We’re good to go!” she cheered. As the children gathered, humming with excitement, she popped the ice cream out of their paper cups. Oohs and aahs of delight filled the room at the delicious-looking treats.

The kids headed out to the engawa (veranda) to enjoy their ice cream. Some decided they wanted a bit more flavor, boiling down fruit juice to make their own syrup or drizzling honey to customize their treats. Once they finished eating, it was time to play. The young host led the discussion, asking, “What does everyone want to do?” making sure everyone was included in the fun. When she asked during the reflection, “Who wants to join again next time?” a forest of hands shot up in the air.

Through this project, the young girl tackled so many new challenges—from designing the flyer and promoting her event to classmates she hadn’t spoken to before, to calculating the exact amount of ingredients to buy. “I’m so happy everyone had fun! Thank you all for coming,” she said, her face lighting up with a proud, beautiful smile that showed just how much she had grown through these wonderful challenges.
